1:
Arrive Glossop at your accommodation for the night. |
Day
2:
On leaving Glossop youtake to quiet country lanes before
joining the Sett Valley trail to Hayfield. The Pennine
Bridleway out of Hayfield traverses the spectacular countryside
beneath Kinder Scout, scene of the 1932 mass trespass
to Rushup Edge & onto Perryfoot. A ride down the breathtaking
Winnats Pass & cruise into Castleton, looking out
to Mam Tor or the Shivering Mountain as it is often called,
provides a truly memorable end to your 1st days cycling
(23 miles). |
Day
3:
Out of Castleton you will pass by Ladybower Reservoir
which was the scene for the classic ‘Dambusters’
film. You have the choice of two routes onto Holmfirth
depending on how energetic you are feeling. The longer
route will take you past Stannage Edge, popular with climbers
& walkers & onto Hooks Car whereas the shorter
route will take you over Strines Moor. Both routes will
take you along the much less demanding Pennine Bridleway
to Penistone before the final push over to ‘Last
of the Summer Wine’ country Holmfirth (34 / 43 miles). |
Day
4:
From Holmfirth you will pass by Dunford Bridge & travel
via Salters Brook before joining the Longdendale Trail
at the Woodhead tunnel. Once part of the Manchester to
Sheffield railway this traffic free & welcomingly
flat trail takes you past 5 reservoirs with fantastic
views of Shining Clough Moss & Bleaklow.You will pass
the crossroads with the Pennine Way before you return
to your starting point at Glossop (18miles). |
This tour is best done on a mountain
bike as there are some off road bridleways.
