Difficulty Rating

Grade 1-3

Cycling between 30 – 50 miles (50 – 80 km)  per day with between 400 – 800m ascent (1300 – 2500 feet). These tours are suitable for anyone who has a reasonable level of fitness who will have cycled before but may or may not be regular cyclists. These tours are designed for people who enjoy cycling and want an active but relaxed trip. Generally rolling or flat terrain with one or two more challenging climbs.

Grade 4-5

Cycling between 45 – 65 miles (70 – 100 km) per day with between 600 – 1200m (2000 – 4000 feet) ascent. You are an active cyclist who cycles regularly. Doing a ride of 50 miles would not be too daunting. You may have already completed a tour with a lower difficulty rating and are looking for another challenge. Generally undulating or hilly terrain with a few significant climbs.

Grade 6-7

Cycling between 60 – 80 miles (95 – 130 km) per day with between 1000 – 1600m (3200 – 5200 feet) ascent. You are a regular cyclist who spends a lot of time on their bike. The idea of doing consecutive days of 60 mile bike rides is not too challenging for you. Plenty of training is required to be able to fully enjoy the tour. Generally undulating or hilly terrain with a number of more significant climbs.

Grade 8-10

Cycling between 70 – 110 miles (110 – 170 km) per day, with more than 1500m (4900 feet) ascent. You are a very regular cyclist, and likely regularly ride more than 70 miles in a day. You have done some 100 mile bike rides and are happy with the idea of riding long distances (70+ miles) back-to-back. Generally hilly terrain with a number of more significant climbs.
