Amazing! Roads are so quiet compared to LEJOG. Scenery is stunning and varied. Hills are a challenge without being frighteningly steep both for climbing and descending Highlights were the climb out of Mont Dore, the ascent of Ventoux and the Gorges Du Verdon -the latter was a wonderfully chilled out day with beautiful views and plenty of time to enjoy them. Once we’d got out of Caen, there were no cities or busy roads until Nice, which was a lovely change from the UK. We found that the amount of distance and ascent on most days was perfect for having a good days riding but still having time in the evening to look around the towns.
Lunches were fantastic. The picnics were really well done and Rob and Mark got a bit competitive about providing the best! There was plenty of choice and good quality fresh food and the local fruit tarts were much appreciated. The lunches provided by the cafes and restaurants were also great. Brew stops were superb. Isabelle did a great job of getting fresh seasonal fruit and cutting it up for us so we could try everything without having to eat too much. There was also plenty of choice in terms of sweets, biscuits and dried fruit and nuts so that all tastes were catered for.
