Coast to Coast

This classic Great British ride covers some of northern England's most rugged & spectacular scenery. Join us on this 130 mile ride from the west coast to the east coast of England and enjoy one of the UK's most archetypal and memorable tours.

We will be following the West to East CTC route developed by Sustrans and the Lake District National Park authorities which uses National Cycle Network routes 71, 7 & 14.

Cycling tour
Length:

Grade:
Hard
Accomodation:
B&B
Group/Guided:

From £325 to £395 depending on your choice of accommodation

After dipping our wheels in the Irish Sea at Workington we will cross the northern edge of the Lake District to the Eden Valley. Back into the hills we cross the North Pennines before dropping down to the post-industrial landscape of the North East and dipping our wheels into the North Sea at Tyneside.

The route that we take avoids main roads and keeps to quiet country lanes and cycleways. A guide cycles with the group & your luggage is moved for you each day. You are provided with detailed route notes and maps so that you can cycle at your own pace or you can cycle with our guide who is always at the back of the group. The back up van will carry spares & a few spare bikes and will be on hand to help with any mechanical problems that may occur en-route. Breakfasts are provided each morning & 2 lunches are provided at a cafe en-route (lunch isn't included on the final day).

We aim to take the hassle of organising a tour away from you so that you can concentrate on enjoying yourself and completing the coast to coast challenge. Your bags are moved for you each day & you have the knowledge that if anything goes wrong with your bike we will be on hand to fix it for you or provide a spare bike if necessary. PLEASE NOTE THAT A ROAD BIKE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THIS TOUR.

At the end of the tour we will take you to Newcastle station or you can be taken back to Workington if you left your car in the secure parking area. There is also somewhere to have a shower if you wish (especially handy if it has been raining & you have onward travel). There is always a good camaraderie during the trip and we aim to facilitate a relaxed, friendly & memorable tour.

At the end of the tour at Tynemouth you can chose to be transferred back to the start point along with your bike. If you chose the return transfer option please add £50.00 to the total tour price.

What's Included?

The tour price includes 3 nights accommodation, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, full trip support including a tour leader that cycles with the group, back up van with spare parts and a few spare bikes, detailed route notes and maps so that you can cycle at your own pace and luggage transfer each day.

What's Not Included?

Evening meals, cycle hire (available for £50), transport to Workington, transport from Tynemouth.

Group Size

The group will be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 25 people. We feel that this size of group works best as there will always be enough in the group for some good company but there won’t be so many people that it becomes overcrowded.

Accommodation

You will stay in a variety of places in a mixture of 2 - 3 star B&B’s. All the places that we stay have been carefully selected on grounds of character, location, comfort and cleanliness. Hot showers will always be available so that you can get cleaned up and relax after a long day on the saddle.

Food

All of your breakfasts are included in the price of the trip. You will have a choice of full English, toast, cereals, fruit juices, tea, coffee etc. Lunches are also provided on the first two days cycling at a local cafe. We will meet each evening at a local pub for an evening meal (not included in the price).

Back Up

An experienced tour leader will cycle with you each day and be on hand to help with any bike problems that may occur. You will have detailed route notes so that you can go slower or faster than the leader if you prefer or you can cycle behind the tour leader so that you don’t have to navigate at all.

A back up van will leap frog the group a number of times each day so that help is never far away. We carry a range of spare parts so that repairs can be made en-route and we will have a spare bike available in the event that your bike has a serious breakdown.

Bikes

We highly recommend that you use a bike that you are used to and feel comfortable riding. Your bike should be fully serviced and in good condition before you start, this will reduce the risk of mechanical problems and unnecessary stoppages along the way. A hybrid bike is preferable however the ride can be done on a mountain bike if you prefer. We have a range of hybrid bikes & mountain bikes available for hire (£50 per person) if you don’t have your own bike.

Fitness

This tour is suitable for someone with a reasonable level of fitness and who wants a challenge. If you do plenty of training beforehand you should have no problem completing the ride.

It must be stressed that a good amount of training before the ride will make your tour much more enjoyable and ensure that you finish your ride. We are always happy to advise you about training plans in preparation for the ride.

Clothing & equipment

Clothing for all weathers is recommended so waterproofs are essential. A full recommended kit list is provided & we are always happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Your baggage will be transferred for you each day and will be waiting for you at your accommodation when you arrive.

What our customers say

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for organising such an amazing event; it was one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. The scenery was just breath-taking (so was the ride up Hartside Pass.....and most of the other hills!!) The accommodation, the food, the company and the weather were all great. Neil, Lee, Graham and yourself Steve have been just brilliant. You couldn't have been more helpful and it has been so much fun. There were several of us who were nervous about achieving the ride but you all helped us to believe we could do it and we did! It was such a wonderful moment when we all rode in together at the end. An unforgettable three days - Thank You.

H, Fieldson. Coast to Coast October 2012

Graham, Lee and Neil (in no particular order!) were all great. I thought they were extremely helpful, friendly and when asked specific questions very informative, nothing was too much trouble and they seemed to smooth out any ups and downs. I honestly believe that they made the trip more enjoyable as i felt confident and comfortable that i would reach the end.

N, Craik. Coast to Coast October 2012

It was great to be on quiet roads most of the time.

T, Twitchin. Coast to Coast October 2012

Wonderful route and i liked the fact it was flexible on the hard day.

S, Cook. Coast to Coast October 2012

I was nervous before starting as to wether i would be able to find the route, nothing to worry about, the signs were very good. The views were wonderful especially as you got near to the cafe at Hartside.

The food was fantastic, so much and variety to choose from. Enough for all to be happy with

The tour organisation was wonderful, everything ran so smoothly. From getting us all to the beginning in Workington to the tea stops. The morning briefs were informative, Neil, Lee and Graham all gave you the confidence to be able to complete the trip without any problem; any issue was sorted straight away and was not a problem. It was brilliant.

The tour leaders were so helpful, approachable, knowledgable and supportive, they seem to really enjoy what they were doing, Graham was so enthusiastic for what he was doing. They just made the tour go smoothly.

The tour was wonderful, i had been looking forward to this for six months, it more than lived up to my expectations, it was fantastic and the weather was just a bonus

K, Wright. Coast to Coast October 2012

As mentioned previously to Steve C the organisation is superb, the staff fun and kind, inspiring and reassuring.

The tour leaders were there all the time and even purchased me an new bag when mine broke! Thank You Lee!!

The tour was excellent and above!!

S, Cubitt. Coast to Coast October 2012

Thanks for a truly life-changing experience during this ride.So many unforgetable moments with interesting individuals that the photos keep me reminded of. A special thank you to Steve, Graham, and Phil whose organisation and support was terrific.

Norman B, April 2013

Just wanted to say thanks for a fantastic experience. The support provided by yourself, Graham and Phil was superb and very reassuring. Everything ran so smoothly it probably doesn't make us appreciate the effort that has to go into the organisation and looking after everybody's different needs. What was most impressive was that support always seemed to be able to be provided to everybody no matter where they were on the route. I still don't know how you managed that with no sign of stress shown by any of you.

Tony W, April 2013

Thank you, Steve, for sending along the great photos. I have thoroughly enjoyed going through each one just now and once more reliving our outstanding adventure together. I fear my poor wife and dear friends back here at home in the States are tiring of my endless chatter about LEJOG. But it will remain always one of the best and most fun things I have ever done in my life. I loved each day as well as being with all of you. Please know of my great gratitude for everyone's good cheer having a lone American along for the ride; y'all were very gracious to me! You Brits have one gloriously beautiful kingdom, and it was a privilege for me to see the country this way.

Leigh S, April 2013

"An amazing experience, the weather, body, bike, and social challenges. The journey became more physically, and mentally achievable as the days went by. It made me draw so deep everyday on many different levels, that I can not begin to tell you (it has enabled me to grow and develop in mind, body, and soul!). I almost did not want it to end.......Why not spend the rest of your life cycling around the world, living out of a rucksack, and a pannier! However, life goes on, and I would miss my good friends!"

Tracy O, April 2013

The Accommodation was great and the owners where very friendly and helpful and the ones doing our washing was a great help.

Loved the route with some great traffic free roads and lovely views.

Route notes where excellent and very clear to read so they tell me as we left that up to Jim and Tony !!!

The tour organisation was excellent much better than I had expected. A big thanks to you, Phil and Graham, you all could not have been more helpful.

I loved the tour, we had a great time and met lots of nice people so its something I will never forget.

I will have no problems in recommending your tour to any one so thanks again for making LEJOG such a great 14 days and hope all goes well in the future.

Mark G, April 2013

Thanks again for the trip, I have stayed at some pretty nice resorts and not had the good time I had with your operation.

I have told people about it and mentioned that your 100% professional as are Graham and Phil.

I have never seen 24 strangers 27 including you guys, for 2 weeks be in such close quarters without a cross word or bad comment about something, that alone says you ran a successful trip. A good time was had all around.

Dana F, April 2013

Clearly a lot of effort had gone into ensuring the best possible route at all times.

Route notes faultless, knowledge of the route by Peak Tours very good – realistic and sensible

Steve, Phil & Graham could not have been more helpful, more supportive, always smiling, always there, quietly efficient

Thank you for making what had been a long term ambition come true – the support and service you offered made it possible for me
